Well, I have already tried Picasa Web Albums and I like them, and yes, Picasa is going to give Flickr a run. Flickr is a wonderful showcase for photographs, however, there is a problem with very, very disgusting pornography at Flickr. I am wanting a place to post my pictures for my grandchildren and friends to see and I do not like the risk of them being exposed to some of what pops up unexpectedly on Flickr.
Google’s Picasa has very strict limits on pornography. It is NOT allowed at all. So, in most cases, I plan to post my photographs there from now on. It is much easier uploading, as it is done directly from Picasa.
Picasa Web Albums are very basic now, but I expect them to improve and have many of the features of Flickr, without the PORN! I would say that Flickr would be perfect if they would ban pornography outright, instead of tippy toeing around the “freedom of expression” thingy and giving the option of marking images private. The vast majority of photographers just want to upload decent photographs, and Flickr allows the degenerate minority, the perverts, to post their awful stuff that has no redeeming qualities, is disgusting and harms minors.
It should be an easy technology to weed out the pornography before it ever gets online, as the images are so different from anything else people upload. I am assuming that Google’s Picasa will have the desire and ability to do so. We’re counting on you, Google.
